Protecting Our Grandchildren’s Future

Please forward this (Word version here) to Legislators

I am concerned about threats to God’s Creation – the very web of life that sustains humanity. My concerns are spiritual, moral, religious and scientific.

The Union of Concerned Scientists – – is comprised of 450,000 members & activists including renowned scientists, climatologists, medical researchers, biologists, physicists, engineers, and individuals like me (with a Bachelors Degree in Biology).

The UCS strongly urges State Legislatures, Congress and the White House to take seriously the warnings over many decades that scientific data clearly indicate that atmospheric warming and climate change are real; that they are mostly human-caused; that they are a serious threat to humanity’s future.

The 450,000 members of the UCS – and 2,000 supporters of the OKC Peace House – strongly support U.S. participation in the Paris Climate Agreement through implementation of the EPA’s Clean Power Plan. Most scientists call these “a good start,” but add, “they do not go far enough.”

Oklahoma, Congress, and the administration must not ignore the diagnosis of science that unabated emissions of carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide & hydro-flourocarbons – the “greenhouse gases” – are already causing signs of what will become catastrophic environmental changes – threats to the balance of nature, all species, and humanity, over the coming 50, 100, and 200 years.

Today’s problems with refugees & immigration are nothing compared to what climate change will cause: Half of Bangladesh is six-feet above sea level. Bangladesh’s population is 160 million. When oceans rise another six feet, 80-million Bangladeshis will become refugees. And Bangladesh is just one nation with ocean-front property.

The changes needed are not technically challenging. What is missing is the political will to make the changes. I ask you to join others supporting policies that will insure a healthy environment in the future, for our grandchildren & beyond.
