Heat doesn’t wilt antiwar vigil

John Walters and Nathaniel Batchelder demonstrate for peace on June 17, 2011. Wando Jo Stapleton and Rena Guay also attended.

On Friday, June 17, the weather station in Norman recorded a temperature of 104 degrees Fahrenheit, but four peace activists nonetheless made their vigil against the war on the corner of SW 59th and Western. It was part of a regular third Friday peace vigil co-sponsored by The Peace House.

Cold water was kept handy, and they mostly squeezed into narrow bands of shade provided by nearby utility poles. Afterward they rewarded themselves with a fine dinner at the nearby Casino de Mino restaurant.
